DDR3 SODIMM: is it right for you?

This kit contains 204-pin DDR3 SODIMM memory modules. SODIMM motules are typically used on notebook and laptop PCs. DDR3 SODIMM modules have a notch 2.5cm from the edge. Check the position of the notch in the diagram with the notch in your system's memory slot to be sure. If you have a desktop PC, your system might use DIMM memory, instead of SODIMM.
If it doesn't match, your system might require DDR2 or DDR1 SODIMM memory, or DIMM memory. Corsair makes memory in all popular formats, so check your computer's documentation or contact us for the memory type that you need.
Limited lifetime warranty, support and service
Corsair has been making high-performance PC memory for just about as long as high-performance PC memory has existed. Our dedication to reliability, compatibility and value extends to every product we offer, and countless customers worldwide rely on Corsair. Our reputation is important to us, and that’s why all Corsair DRAM products are backed by a limited lifetime warranty. If you ever need help, we’re available by phone, email, and web forum.

As a graphic designer, 4 GB of RAM simply wasn't cutting it when running nearly all of the Adobe Creative Suite is a daily thing for me. I went with this upgrade because Crucial was the most affordable brand (that I trust), and I'm overjoyed with the results. The RAM was immediately accepted, and the speed of my MacBook has increased by more than 200% when running (and multi-tasking with) highly memory intensive programs. Running Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign simultaneously is no issue at all anymore. Even when working with quite large files, I've yet to experience any lagging or freezing (that was quite common before, thus the reason for upgrading). Files that would take up to five minutes to load are now open and ready to edit within 10-15 seconds. I would highly recommend this RAM in specific, and advise anyone who uses their computer for more than web browsing and has less than 8 GB to consider getting an upgrade. When you do any sort of memory intensive tasks, more RAM is always better. I know of some professionals who use design stations with up to 94 GB of RAM.

Also, on a separate note for those who are considering the upgrade for gaming, I still say go for it. At 4 GB, the games that I do play (not many options for that on Mac, sadly; I just prefer OS X for the fluency of the design programs), like Path of Exile, Diablo 3, and WoW, all experience issues with framerate quality and lagging/freezing, but after upgrading, they truly run like advertised. This also pleases me greatly.

Overall, I have yet to find any cons to this product. I would recommend it to anyone seeking an upgrade.

Kingston ValueRAM 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 (PC3-12800) Non-ECC CL11 SODIMM Notebook Memory (KVR16S11/8)I purchased two of these to increase my laptop's memory from 8-GB to 16-GB. Kingston's HyperX CL9 memory has faster specifications, but I really think that most people will not notice 2-ns of extra latency. I ordered this CL11 memory, instead of Kingston's CL9 HyperX memory, because I wanted to exactly match the specifications of my laptop's original 2x4GB memory to ensure compatibility since using mismatched memory can cause system instability. And this memory has been working flawlessly in my laptop!

My Dell 17R SE 7720 laptop was originally sold with 8GB (2x4GB) of memory, which was unfortunately the maximum amount of memory that Dell offered as a configuration for this laptop. Furthermore, Dell Support did not recommend going beyond 8-GB of memory, and their Web site offered no memory upgrades for the laptop. I think that the main reason Dell Support recommended to users not to add memory to this 17R SE 7720 laptop model was because this laptop is equipped with a 32-GB mSATA SSD card which is used for both Intel's "Rapid Start Technology" and "Smart Response Technology". Intel's "Rapid Start Technology" speeds up the resume time for a laptop coming out of hibernation state compared to the standard Windows hibernation mode because the system's memory contents are saved to the speedy SSD instead of the hard disk. And their "Smart Response Technology" caches frequently used files, data, and applications on the same SSD drive for faster access instead of going to the hard disk each time. With Dell's 17R SE 7720, the 32-GB mSATA SSD was partitioned with 8-GB allocated to the RST hibernation function, and the remainder of the SSD was allocated to the SRT caching function

I installed this module into my HP ProBook 430 G1. It works perfectly and passed testing without any issues.

Due to the slim design of the laptop, I had to ensure that the module wouldn't short-circuit against the laptop's metal-coated access panel. One of the capacitors along the top edge of this SODIMM stands taller than its neighboring parts, so I added insulation to the laptop cover to prevent a short. The laptop maker is mainly at fault here, but at the same time it's a little odd because the RAM that came with the laptop is also made by Kingston, and that module uses smaller capacitors compared to the ones on the module I purchased from Amazon.

One final note, as of writing this review, Amazon's generic photo shows a 2R module with 8 chips per side. In reality, module is 1R and has 4 chips per side.

so far, so good after almost a month. and what was also great was talking to the technicians at crucial who were able to tell me how to change a setting that caused the computer not to be able to at first use the extra ram. crucial was great, amazon as always great. thank you to both.
